Shifts in Time: Autumn and Winter 2026

In Shifts in Time: Autumn and Winter, the subcategory **Shifts in Time** belongs to the category **Hidden Kingdoms, Shifting Worlds**. Individual artworks are untitled, as they form part of a larger collection of paintings organised by category and subcategory. Based primarily at the artist’s studio, the project explores painting through interconnected themes of everyday life, bacterial behaviour, trauma, conflict, survival, and transformation.

Using intense materials and processes, the paintings stage encounters between life and death and between the human and the machine. They invite audiences to reflect on connection, change, and the relationship between art and science.

**When I start a painting, I make no assumptions about how it will turn out and have little idea where it will lead. With each body of work I begin, I pay attention to how a painting develops its own characteristics, contributing to a larger family collective. A painting is driven by a need to be distinct from everything else; it cannot be viewed solely as a by-product or a commodity; it’s a living thing that generates life.**
