Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of ‘book’, an installation commissioned by the City of Sunderland Arts and Libraries and the Arts Council of England for the Visual Arts UK Initiative, awarded to the North East of England in 1996.
‘book’ is far from a conventional publication. It consists of an aluminium and stainless-steel box measuring 2.25 m x 1.25 m x 0.75 m, containing 16 aluminium sheets affixed to a series of aluminium runners that form each of the “pages”. Each page has been transferred to high-resolution colour density dura-clear film and attached directly to the metal. When fully opened, the ‘book’ extends to 10 metres in length.
