The title might suggest that, by following the sun day after day, the characters walk in circles without making progress, implying that each day resembles the last. Yet along the way, they meet fellow travellers, exotic creatures, and places never seen before—guides who point them towards where to look next for answers to their questions.
Many drawings convey a sense of urgency, suggesting that the characters feel their destination is near or that they are hurried for an unknown reason. The camel, often regarded as a beast of burden, also embodies a noble quality. In some drawings, the camels appear equipped to battle the harsh terrain; in others, they look warlike and weather-beaten with their fur in tatters. Other drawings are playful, uninhibited, and fun. Some are figurative and conventional, while others are overtly abstract. Just as painting is a discipline, drawing shapes the nature and outcome of the artwork, influencing changes in characters and imagery. It is like an intimate relationship between pen, finger, paper, and water, working in harmony to guide a drawing from start to finish, while the source remains embedded in the artwork.
