**Shifts in Time: A Journey**

November 2025

Shifts in Time: A Journey chronicles the development of five paintings from July to November 2025. It showcases the diverse range of media and various approaches the artist employs from his repertoire.

**Shifts in Time: A Journey** chronicles the evolution of the artist’s work before, during, and after the success of the project **Hidden Kingdoms: Shifting Worlds**—a collaboration with world-class scientists from the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology (CBCB) at Newcastle University. The journey begins after the artist graduates from the Royal College of Art (RCA) in 1982. It sets out to explore his development and evolving portfolio while reflecting on the challenges he has faced along the way. The narrative highlights his interactions with communities, educational institutions, galleries, artist networks, independent organisations, statutory bodies, and health authorities across the country.
Central to this journey is the artist’s commitment to processing and sharing his experiences through art, inviting audiences to engage and discover new perspectives on themselves and their world. A diverse range of artworks supports this narrative, helping to forge the artist’s sense of identity and independence. Collaboration is key, as each piece is shaped by the knowledge, materials and resources available, inspiring further creative exploration. By expanding collaboration and inviting curatorial contributions, the project’s artistic vision can better facilitate an engagement between the artwork, its environment and people.
**Shifts in Time** documents the artist’s explorations and choices as he navigates both the familiar and the unfamiliar, where mistakes become growth opportunities. The work emphasises the interplay between chance and control, translating research into a sense of place and belonging. This approach empowers viewers to define art for themselves and to perceive reality through various media, including painting, drawing, film, and more. Rather than offering a conclusion, **Shifts in Time** serves as an ongoing point of renewal and reflection—an ever-evolving presence.
