Borders 1988-1994

Borders (1988–1994)

Borders 1988–1994 is a collection of oil paintings made between 1988 and 1994. They arose from two distinct but significant influences: the epic struggle for independence at Flodden Hill in 1513 in the Scottish Borders, where I am from, and the pioneering work we accomplished at the Art Studio in Sunderland. The Studio was awarded its second major public exhibition, Creating a New World, in Sunderland’s Northern Centre for Contemporary Art. The exhibition, which featured works by all Art Studio artists, was curated by NCCA Director Mike Hill and opened by Tyne and Wear Foundation Chairman Grigor McClelland.
